H1N1 FLU:
With the presence of the H1N1 flu, this flu season has caused increased anxiety for many of us. We are closely monitoring the state and federal governmental health recommendations and have created our school protocols. The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has a great deal of information on their website: http://www.dhmh.maryland.gov/swineflu/
Seneca Academy will:
Continue our practice of requiring students to hand-wash frequently and asking them to cover coughs with their elbows and tissues.
Continue our practice of washing commonly-used surfaces daily.
Monitor all students for illness and will separate a child who has flu-like symptoms (as well as other illness) until a parent can come to take them home.
Be in close communication with families of sick children to ensure that appropriate “exclusion periods” are being maintained to decrease the risk of flu transmission.
Monitor the occurrence of flu throughout our school to determine if a school closure is warranted.
Promptly keep the community apprised of any circumstances that would affect the operation of our school or measures relating to our students, faculty and staff. If a school closure is warranted, we will prepare educational materials as appropriate so that learning can continue during the closure period.
If anyone has questions or concerns, please see the CDC website www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/schools or call the office.
