Words from Dr. Carroll…
- Snow day make-ups. You may know that private elementary schools in Maryland are required by the State Department of Education to provide school 170 days in each school-year. They recommend that we add 3-4 days each year to cover snow days. For this year, we added 4 days. We then added back February 13th as a school day, giving us 5 extra days. Unfortunately, we have had to close school 7 days, so we need to make up 2. We will make these up by having a full-day of school (regularly scheduled day including before and after care and clubs) for preschool and elementary students on Monday March 23rd (formerly our late-winter break) and a half-day of school for preschool and elementary students on Friday April 3rd (formerly the first day of spring break). On Friday the 3rd, elementary students will be dismissed after lunch at 12:30. Preschool students will be dismissed at their regular dismissal times. We will offer lunch bunch for preschool students who are enrolled in lunch bunch. There will be no Parent’s Day Out class on this day.
- Elementary Spring Concert date has been changed!
Due to conflicts with using St. Nick’s Church’s space, we will have the Elementary Spring Concert on Wednesday April 1st from 7-8:30 p.m. This concert is for every elementary student and they all are working diligently on various musical pieces. Please plan on attending!! More information is coming home in student’s folder.
- Next year’s school start date for elementary has changed!!
Due to having 2 years in a row where we needed to add school days due to weather, we have decided to change our start date. Elementary students and families will now start on Tuesday September 1st for a half day that will include an extended Meet and Greet and family-teacher picnic. This was originally scheduled as our Meet and Greet day. Then Wednesday September 2nd will be our first full day of school for 1st-5th graders (kindergartners start with a half day with dismissal at 11:45, no lunch). Preschool students will start the Thursday and Friday after Labor Day as usual (September 10th and 11th). Here is the new, updated 2015-2016 school year calendar.
