Words from Dr. Carroll… ACTION

Seneca Academy is a busy place these days! The learning activities of many of our classes has begun to spill over into the greater community. There are posters and flyers around the school sharing information 5th graders have discovered during their Exhibition projects. Third graders have decided to support Comfort Cases, an organization founded by former Seneca Academy parent Rob Chasteen-Scheer, to provide supplies for children in foster care. They are collecting donations and hosting a bake sale tomorrow (see below). We have 23 students in preschool through 5th grade who are presenting at our STEM fair tomorrow. They have been working diligently at home to create presentations to share with our community.
Learning is not worth very much if it can’t be applied in everyday life. Seneca Academy students have so many opportunities to translate what they study in the classroom into meaningful, relevant action in the world.

Seneca Spotlight: Maryland Science Center

The fourth graders took part in a comprehensive field trip yesterday to the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore.    The students watched an IMAX movie,Forces of Nature, and participated in hands-on activities throughout the Science Center.  The field trip connected to three of the 4th grade units of inquiry, including their current unit, Natural Disasters.

Camp Seneca Spotlight: Video Game Creation Camp

Do your kids like Minecraft?

Do they love creating and playing in their own video gaming worlds?

This hands-on camp is designed to guide students in the creation of
different “sandbox” elements that will lead to the production of their
own video game environment.

The dynamic Mr. Cliff will lead two, one-week camps for 1st-6th graders this summer!
