Words from Dr. Carroll…

Hello Everyone!

This special edition of FoxTales is not only going to our regular readers, it is one of the few times during the year that we reach out to all Friends of Seneca Academy. We want to let you know what is going on here and invite you to some special events. In turn, we’d love to hear from you! Please respond to this email and let us know where your children are in school and their interests/activities. We will be putting together an alumni newsletter later in the year….

This is one of my favorite events, as it is an opportunity to get so many of our community together to listen to our wonderful band and singers as well as socialize and celebrate the season.

International Festival

Sunday, Mar 15th
@ Seneca Academy
A family favorite every year.  Students and families depict a wide variety of countries; performances by students ranging in age from pre-K to high school, fun activities, an international fashion show and of course, delicious international foods!

STEM Fair

Friday, Apr 17th
@ Seneca Academy
We have many engaging activities planned for our elementary students throughout the day, including a hands-on project with Kid Museum in the morning, presentations by scientist-parents in the afternoon, and students’ presentations in the late afternoon. It has shaped up to be a wonderful day of learning!

6th Annual Trash to Treasures Yard Sale

Saturday, May 9th
@ Seneca Academy
Please save your “treasures” for this faculty-sponsored fundraiser! Then stay for coffee and doughnuts and shop, shop, shop!

Spring Picnic

Sunday, May 31st
@ Seneca Academy
This is a wonderful gathering of Seneca Academy families, getting together one last time before summer break. The students love playing outside on our playground, participating in a “cake walk” and bouncing on the moon bounce. Parents are able to hang out together, knowing that their children are engaged and having fun! We also invite families who are new to the school to join us for this picnic, so it is a great opportunity to welcome new community members.

3rd Grade Human Body Systems

Mrs. Giller’s 3rd Grade Class has been working on a unit of inquiry about the Human Body. Two activities in this unit were to create 3-D models and life-sized posters reflecting their knowledge of six body systems. Each student became an “expert” of two systems and shared their knowledge with their classmates. Through this unit third graders explored non-fiction reading and writing, learned about interpreting and recording data, practiced the scientific method, and enhanced their oral and visual presentation skills. One of their culminating activities was a field trip to the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore.
