FoxTales Summer 2014: Words from Dr. Carroll…

What a Great Summer We’ve Had at Camp!

We had a record number of campers this summer- from 5 different states and over 30 schools!!!

We had a record number of campers this summer- from 5 different states and over 30 schools! This diverse and wide-ranging group of campers (preschool through rising 6th graders) enjoyed 5 weeks of activities including arts, cooking, comedy theater, animals, hiking, water play, computers…the list goes on and on! Our amazing camp leaders and CITs did a wonderful job of ensuring that campers were engaged in fun while learning a lot. Thanks to everyone who made this summer such a success! We are already planning for next year!!

Medications Update

Any child with a diagnosed medical condition requiring medications to be kept at school (i.e. Asthma, Food/Bee Allergies, etc.) must have a Medication Authorization Form and an Action Plan filled out by your doctor each year.

As per the Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care:

This form must be completed fully in order for child care providers and staff to administer the required medication. A new medication administration form must be completed at the beginning of each 12 month period, for each medication, and each time there is a change in dosage or time of administration of a medication.

* Prescription medication must be in a container labeled by the pharmacist or prescriber.

* Non-prescription medication must be in the original container with the label intact.

* An adult must bring the medication to/from school.

Priscella Celentano, our Certified Medication Technician, will be emailing appropriate forms to individuals already on file with a diagnosed medical condition by July 25.  If you do not receive an email from Mrs. Celentano, check your “Junk” email folder or contact her directly at pcelentano@senecaacademy.org  or at (301)869-3728.  For the safety of children, we are striving to have all medications and paperwork by the first day of school, so your prompt attention will be very much appreciated.

Helpful hints:   Be mindful of expiration dates when picking up medications at the pharmacy to avoid needing a refill too soon. Additionally, ask your doctor about extending Medication Authorization forms through next summer to avoid extra paperwork for next summer’s camp.

Please do not hesitate to contact Priscella Celentano if you have any questions or concerns.
